An induction plate element (a "burner") is a powerful electromagnet, high-frequency electromagnetism generated with sophisticated electronic components in the "item" below the surface of the ceramic device. When a consistent induction tray is placed in the magnetic field which generates the element, transfers energy field ("armature") in the metal. That the transferred energy causes the metal - the vessel - to become hot. By controlling the intensity of the electromagnetic field, we can control the amount of heat generated in the cooking vessel - and we can change that amount instantaneously; the difference here is that the heat is generated directly in the pot or pan itself, not in any part of the induction hob.
